Michael M.E. Johns, M.D.

Michael M.E. Johns (M.D. 1969, Residency 1975) is chief executive officer of the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center at Emory University in Atlanta, and is executive vice president for health affairs and chairman of the board of Emory Healthcare. He is a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Emory University School of Medicine and in the Department of Health Policy at Rollins School of Public Health.

Johns has been a significant contributor to many of the leading organizations and policy groups in health care, including the Institute of Medicine, the Association of American Medical Colleges and many others. He frequently lectures, publishes and works with state and federal policy makers on topics ranging from the future of health-professions education to national health system reform.

Johns received his Bachelor of Science in biology at Wayne State University in his hometown of Detroit before graduating with distinction from the U-M Medical School. He remained at Michigan for his internship and residency. From 1990-96, Johns was dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and vice president of the medical faculty at Johns Hopkins University.
