Ella A. Kazerooni, M.D.

Ella A. Kazerooni, M.D.Ella A. Kazerooni (M.D. 1988, Residency 1992) is a professor of radiology and director of the Division of Cardiothoracic Radiology in the University of Michigan Medical School.

A 1988 graduate of the University of Michigan Inteflex program with her bachelor’s and medical degrees, Dr. Kazerooni completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at the U-M. She also holds a master’s degree in clinical research design and statistical analysis from the U-M School of Public Health.

Dr. Kazerooni is a GE-Association of University Radiologists fellow, a fellow of the American College of Radiology and the American College of Chest Physicians, the trustee for cardiopulmonary radiology for the American Board of Radiology, vice president of the American Roentgen Ray Society, and past president of the Society of Thoracic Radiology, the Association of University Radiologists and the Radiology Alliance for Health Services Research in Radiology.

Her research focuses on the development and evaluation of advanced imaging technologies as applied to diseases of the cardiothoracic systems, including the heart, lungs and aorta. Specific areas of research include lung cancer screening, and the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, pulmonary embolism, thoracic trauma, interstitial and obstructive lung disease.

Dr. Kazerooni is the institutional principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute National Lung Screening Trial, and is a co-investigator on numerous grants, including the NIH Specialized Center of Research grant for the study of interstitial lung disease, and NIH-funded Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis III held by the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
