Major Gift Officers

The University of Michigan Health System has exciting opportunities for highly motivated individuals who embrace the missions of medical research, medical education and patient care that have made the U-M Health System one of the leading academic health care institutions in America today. As part of a growing, dynamic development team, officers will become skilled in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewarding of major gift prospects and donors. Reporting to the associate vice president for medical development, officers will have the support of senior gift officers as mentors as well as the support of a highly experienced staff in events planning, stewardship, annual giving and alumni relations. Experienced gift officers will be joining a vibrant team whose members are enthusiastic about welcoming new colleagues and invested in helping them succeed.

Qualifications: Candidates need not have fund-raising experience, but should possess qualities appropriate for a person representing one of the nation's top academic research institutions, including a history of behavior typified by integrity, honesty and strong moral values. They must have highly developed communication skills, including an exceptional ability to hear what others are saying. They must be self-starters with a track record of working effectively in a non-hierarchical team environment. They must be able to develop creative strategies in regard to individual cultivation and solicitation and must have the confidence and strength of character needed to be an agent of change. They must be able to discover new gift prospects through self-initiative and the building of new relationships. They must believe strongly in the power of medicine to create a better world.

Environment: Ann Arbor typically ranks as one of the most livable towns in the U.S., with a rich cosmopolitan atmosphere related to the enormous intellectual, cultural and social resources of the University of Michigan, and close proximity to a major international airport, as well as easy drives to Detroit and Chicago.

Salary: Commensurate with skills and experience, competitive with development salaries at other leading academic research institutions.
