Emeritus Professors Gather for Annual Dinner

Photos by Martin Vloet

Many of the Medical School’s emeritus professors and their guests attended the fourth annual Emeritus Faculty Dinner hosted by Dean Allen S. Lichter on June 5 at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor. Emeritus professors continue to contribute to the school in vital ways; the annual gathering recognizes and honors their contributions, past and present, and provides an opportunity for them to reunite and be updated together on the affairs of the Medical School and Health System.

The evening featured an address by U-M President Mary Sue Coleman, Ph.D., who spoke about the challenges and excitement of her first year as president, a year that included the U.S. Supreme Court review of the university’s affirmative action policies, significant state budget cutbacks enacted by Governor Jennifer Granholm, and the local impact of world events such as global conflict, terrorism and SARS. Dean Lichter and Interim Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs Lazar Greenfield, M.D., also spoke to the esteemed group of emeritus faculty.
