Looking Ahead
In 2002, you envisioned a national network of depression centers analogous to the national network of cancer and cardiovascular centers, with the U-M Depression Center serving as a prototype. Any signs yet that this network will happen?
It already is happening. We asked our prominent National Advisory Board and Scientific Advisory Board members to make this vision the primary topic of our October meeting and they were remarkably helpful. Ten eminent universities have already expressed interest in becoming founding members of the National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC). An organizing meeting will be held in Ann Arbor this spring. The NNDC is on its way to being something truly special — something transformational. We are proud to be leading the way.
