Looking Ahead

One of the stated goals of the Depression Center is to diminish the stigma of depression. What has the center been doing toward this goal?

The center is doing a lot! The Depression on College Campuses national symposium in 2005 was devoted to counteracting stigma. We have an array of media, political, athletic and corporate leaders who have become spokespersons, including participating in educational programs sponsored by the center. Even the choice of the center’s name — the Depression Center — has been lauded as a visible step in counteracting stigma. Cancer Centers no longer flee from their name; we have learned from their success.
