Looking Ahead

What are some specific ways in which people diagnosed with depression are stigmatized or discriminated against today, for instance, in regards to insurance?

Limited coverage is still the norm. This is sad. Treatment for depression and bipolar still is “carved out” and handled separately by many insurance companies. But things are improving. Aetna, for example, has launched a new program to reimburse for screening in primary care settings so that depressed individuals can be identified earlier. Hopefully this will become a national trend.
