The 2008 White Coat Ceremony

The White Coat Ceremony is the symbolic beginning of the four-year journey into the medical profession, and a formal welcome to the prestigious University of Michigan Medical School for the newest class of future physicians. This year’s ceremony took place on Sunday, August 3, at Rackham Auditorium on central campus at the U-M.

The Class of 2012 was welcomed by Associate Dean for Student Programs Elizabeth Petty, M.D., and Assistant Dean for Admissions Steven E. Gay, M.D. (Residency 1997). Dean James O. Woolliscroft, M.D. (Residency 1980), presided over the ceremony and the keynote speaker was Robert N. Hensinger (M.D. 1964, Residency 1974), the William S. Smith Collegiate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.
