The 2009 Galens Smoker

The 2009 Galens Smoker took place March 6-7 at Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre in the Michigan League. The Smoker, an annual play written, directed, produced, choreographed and performed by members of the Galens Medical Society, traditionally lampoons the school and faculty, and the plot usually bears a striking resemblance to a feature film, play or musical. This year’s Smoker, “Old Stool,” was inspired by the 2003 film “Old School,” starring Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn as buddies who try to add excitement to their lives by starting a college fraternity, even though their college days are long behind them.

The Galens Medical Society is a community service and social organization of medical students that aims to bridge the gap between students and faculty. Galens members Josh Cohn, Zarina Dohadwala, Tom Scott-Craig and Geoff Sisk served as the producers and directors for this year’s show.
