Consultation de Médecins 1760
French painter and lithographer Louis-Léopold Boilly’s (1761-1845) depiction of a group of doctors in consultation in 1823 is part of a collection of more than 90 caricatures entitled “Recueil de grimaces” or “Collection of grimaces.” The image portrays aging physicians seemingly engaged in an unpleasant debate, but it is also believed to be a subtle jab by Boilly at France’s Ancien Régime political system.
