Match Day 2011

The University of Michigan Medical School Class of 2011 learned their residency fate at the school’s annual Match Day on March 17. This year 174 students participated in the National Resident Matching Program; 26 percent will remain at the U-M for their next stage of training. The state of Michigan was a popular destination, with 38.5 percent of the class matching here, followed by Massachusetts, California, New York and North Carolina. Nearly half (47.2 percent) chose primary care specialties — a significant increase from the average 35 percent of U-M graduates who went into these fields (including family medicine, internal medicine, medicine/pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology and pediatrics) over the last three years. —MF
