HOST (Help Our Students Travel) Program
The interviews are over; the residency matches have been made; the M4s are weeks away from graduation, and we have had a chance to look at the amazing success of the inaugural year of our HOST Program in which alumni from all over the country hosted M4 students in their homes during the student residency interview process. It is because of our volunteers that this program was such a success and will be offered again next year. Please watch for updates in future issues of MPulse when we will be requesting 2005-2006 alumni volunteer hosts. To find out more about the HOST Program please contact Theresa Finney Dumais at dumaist@umich.edu or at 734.998.7584 or 800.468.3482.
The Michigan Difference Seminars
Michigan alumni and supporters gathered in Naples and Palm Beach, Florida this past February for a day of educational seminars and socializing. The Ritz-Carlton in Naples was packed with 340 registered participants and the Four Seasons in Palm Beach checked in with 226 registered participants. President Mary Sue Coleman, Dr. Robert Kelch, and a wide variety of outstanding Michigan faculty, staff, and alumni attended each event. Prominent community members and alumni gave dynamic presentations on subjects ranging from The Year in Medicine: From Atkins to Zinc to a Historical Perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. The overwhelming response to these events has already led to the planning of next year’s Michigan Difference Seminars! Look for information in future issues of MPulse.
Support Tomorrow’s Doctors Today
Imagine making a gift and being able to see the results right away. Annual named scholarships, which may be established with gifts of $5,000 or more, provide financial support to a medical student in need. In a very immediate and meaningful way, these scholarships create the opportunity to establish a benefactor-student relationship and to become personally involved with the future of medicine through the UM Medical School. To learn more or to request a video featuring medical students and their appreciation for scholarship support, contact B. J. Bess at bjbess@umich.edu or at 734.998.6044 or 800.468.3482.
