The Real Estate Department reports through Central Finance to the CFO of Michigan Medicine. All Michigan Medicine leases are in the name of the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan Constitutional Corporation.
The Real Estate Department manages all leased locations for Michigan Medicine. Our real estate portfolio consists of approximately 1,300,000 square feet of leased spaced in approximately 60 locations, spread across approximately 120 departments. The Real Estate Department manages all Michigan Medicine leased space needs, including lease initiation, negotiation, amendment, extension, enforcement, and administration.
Additionally, the Real Estate Department oversees day to day building and maintenance concerns, and serves as the liaison between landlords and Michigan Medicine support service departments. The Real Estate Department also partners with leadership to develop the health system's comprehensive strategic real estate plan.
