Investing in Great Minds and Great Medical Science

“What everybody in the business of medical research is doing, every day, is just desperately hoping that something they do will save lives, improve lives, or end suffering. Every family is touched in some way by diseases like Parkinson’s, juvenile diabetes, or other types of diseases. There are thousands of patients out there who believe that stem cell research is their greatest hope.”

Sean Morrison, Ph.D.

Already a nationally-noted stem cell researcher when he was recruited to the
University of Michigan in 1999, Sean Morrison is investigating the mechanisms that regulate stem cell function in the nervous and blood-forming systems, particularly the mechanisms that regulate stem cell self-renewal, aging and organ formation. Bestowed a multitude of honors during his young career — including a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers — Morrison heads the U-M Center for Stem Cell Biology in the Life Sciences Institute.
